A Reflection of 2018 & My Goals For 2019

Hi my beauties, hope all is well. Can you believe we’re halfway through January already? In today’s post I’m going to look back at my 2018, the good the bad & the ugly, what lessons 2018 taught me, & my new goals that I hope to achieve in 2019.

The Highs Of 2018

I know it’s gonna sound cliche but one of the biggest highs of 2018 and every day, since she was born, was watching my daughter grow & develop into this tiny little human with a huge personality. Another highlight of 2018 was that I got a job that fits around my family & it has also enabled me to save money each month. I was also more sociable this year & made new friends which have helped me gain my confidence back.

The Lows Of 2018

2018 dealt me one of the biggest blows that it possibly could, the death of a loved one. On the 4th August, the day after my daughters 2nd Birthday came the phone call I’d been fearing there was nothing more the hospital could do for my uncle & we should prepare to say our goodbyes. Sadly he passed away before I got chance. I was really close to my Uncle as he was more like a big brother to me & was always there in my life when I needed him. I miss him every day I’ve never experienced the feeling of grief before. It’s a weird feeling grief and one you can’t really put into words how your feeling as you can be fine one minute & then blam it suddenly hits you that they are really gone. At the beginning of January, I started a new job which I felt I wasn’t the right fit for, I used to wake up each morning full of anxiety & hated going to work. I’d be in tears, luckily for me, my old company was hiring so I was able to quit and walk into a job I knew I enjoyed.

What 2018 taught me

That life is really too short & no one is promised tomorrow. This is probably one of the biggest things 2018 taught me. It’s definitely changed my outlook on life, I don’t sweat the small stuff as long as me & my family are healthy then everything else in comparison is not that important it’s just materialistic. It’s also taught me to make time for family & friends because you never know what is around that corner and that phone call you ignored could be the last time you got to hear their voice.

2018 taught me its OK to quit & accept defeat if you know that somethings not right for you & it’s affecting you physically and mentally.

I’ve always suffered from Anxiety & Panic attacks since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t till this year I realised that’s exactly what that feeling was. For me its an overwhelming sense of fear or sadness, then my heart beats really fast and I feel like I can’t breathe. For me, Alcohol makes my anxiety worse especially the days after. Rushing also causes my anxiety as I panic that I’ve forgotten to do something important like turn oven off or lock the door. This year was the worse as I had separation anxiety about being away from my little girl. A strange trigger for me is Cats so don’t expect to see me in a cat Cafe anytime soon.

Not to compare myself to others, I covered this in more depth here.

Goals for 2018 I Met

  • Be More Positive – I’d definitely say I was a more positive person in 2018 as I learnt to distance myself away from toxic people & Energy. I now don’t tolerate peoples BS or Fakeness & say Thank-you Next
  • Be more Social – I was more sociable in 2018 & went out at least once a week and made some new friends.
  • Healthy lifestyle – I say I have quite a healthy lifestyle as I don’t eat takeaways a lot or processed food and I upped my daily water intake & walk most places as I don’t drive.
  • Get a job that fits around my family. – For the most part, my job fits around us I’m at home for tea & putting her to bed.
  • Save money monthly. My main reason for getting a job other than for my mentality was to have that extra income to be able to save a little bit of money monthly and I have been able to do this, it might not be a lot but every little help.

Goals I didn’t meet in 2018

  • Yoga & Meditation – I tried Yoga & Meditation & didn’t enjoy them I found it boring I need something more upbeat like running & dancing. Being an over-thinker & analyzer I didn’t find meditation relaxing.
  • Read more books – I read about 5 books last year & I was aiming for 12. I enjoy reading so I’m going to start reading before bed instead of scrolling down my phone.
  • Personal stylist course – I decided not to do this course as it was a lot of money & being a Personal stylist is not a reliable source of income.
  • Blogging goals – I didn’t meet my blogging goals in terms of numbers or sticking to a schedule but I have learnt that numbers don’t matter as long as I’m still passionate & enjoy what I’m writing about that’s all that matters.
  • Move out – we didn’t manage to move out in 2018 we viewed a couple of property’s but there had similar issues to our circumstances now or were smaller. so in 2019, we will continue our search.

My Goals for 2019

  • Healthy Lifestyle – I always think in terms of being healthy theirs always room for improvement, in 2019 I hope to exercise 3 times a week with a mixture of cardio & strength, eat more healthy by adding more fruit & vegetables to my diet. more homemade food not out of jars and drink more water.
  • Meat-free once a week – In terms of diet I do eat a lot of meat-based produce & in 2019 I would like to not eat meat based produce at least once a week. if you have any recipes let me know.
  • Eco-friendly- toward the end of 2018 I became more conscious of the vast amounts of waste that we were throwing away & the damage it doing to our planet. In 2019 I hope to consume less plastic where possible & always recycle, use reusable straws & coffee cups, slowly introduce more Eco -friendly makeup and skincare products into my routine.
  • Travel more – in 2019 I would like to travel more, I don’t mean travel the world as my budget won’t allow that but just get a train or bus to a different city or village and explore new areas.
  • Build a business – in 2019 I’m hoping to go self- employed and set up my own business.
  • Continue saving – in 2019 I would like to continue saving money either for a deposit or emergency funds.
  • Move out – I’m hoping 2019 will be the year we finally move out to a house that’s big enough, has a garden, & more importantly no damp issues.
  • Make time for my partner more – Having a young child its very rare that we get time together and if we do theirs always a million and 1 other things to do like, cleaning, blogging etc. So hopefully in 2019, I plant to make time just for us two whether it’s cuddling up on the sofa watching ghost adventures, pub or the cinema or a romantic meal.

Blogging Goals

  • Be more sociable – In 2019 I want to make blogging friends, maybe attend events and just be more sociable on all social networks participating in more chats & conversations with others.
  • Share more – In 2019 I want it to be the year I share more of my life & personality with you the readers.
  • Become more comfortable talking to the camera – I would love to become more comfortable talking to the camera & filming hauls, talking about my makeup & OOTD’s
  • Be more Organised – I would love it in 2019 could stick to a schedule and have a blog post planned and scheduled in advance rather than just posting as and when.

What I Got For Christmas 2018

Hi my beauties, hope all is well. Hope you all had a nice Christmas and if you don’t celebrate it hope you had a nice break with your family. Christmas was bittersweet this year as a family member who I always looked forward to seeing at Christmas is sadly no longer with us and I missed him greatly if you’ve ever experienced grief, why does it seem worse at Christmas time? I was incredibly spoilt & am truly grateful to all my family for my gifts and the fun we had over this break. I know there’s a love-hate relationship with these kinds of posts as it can come across as bragging but I don’t see it as that way I see it more as sharing the love and expression of how grateful I am for my family and gifts. Thank you to you all. So without further ado let me show you what I got for Christmas this year.

Llewyns Witches Calendar 2019

Is it really Christmas if you don’t get a new calendar for 2019. I’m interested in all things supernatural and would like to become more spiritual in the new year and each month this calendar shares daily colour correspondences, planetary motions, moon signs & phases, quick spells, tips & ideas for each month.

A Modern Guide To Reading The Tarot – Danielle Noel

I’m looking forward to reading this book and learning how to read and understand the tarot after having my tarot read in 2017. This book explains in simple terms everything you need to know about the tarot it works with most standard decks of traditional tarot cards and features the stunning artwork of Danielle Noel.

Work Your Light Oracle Cards – Rebecca Campbell

Different than standard tarot cards these cards are said to help you connect with your intuition, provide guidance, help with healing & connect you with supportive energies.

Loungefly Disney Villains Print Purse

I love Disney Princesses but definitely think the villains are way underrated so I’m loving the fact that their finally having their moment in the spotlight. This purse is spacious and feels really good quality.

New Look Necklaces

2019 will be the year I hopefully up my jewellery game and I love these two necklaces. The first one is a silver layered statement necklace that has a bohemian vibe and the second one is a star & moon layered necklace.

Nastygal Star Of The Show Crop Top

I loved this top as soon as I saw it on Helen Anderson and when my sister asked if I wanted anything from Nastygal for Christmas I didn’t hesitate to send her the link to this straight away. I nearly cried when she said it was out of stock so I was so happy when I unwrapped this Christmas day.

Sainsbury’s fig Leave & Elderberry Scented Wax Candle.

I love candles even though I never seem to burn them please tell me I’m not the only one who collects candles but never burns them. This one smells nice and looks expensive.

Mary Poppins Towels & Coasters

Mary Poppins was one of my favourite musicals as a child. I’m yet to see the new film but it’s on my never-ending to-do list. These towels and coasters are a lovely addition to the house & will surely brighten up any day.

Who doesn’t love getting new lingerie for Christmas I know I do it’s one of those things that I hate buying for myself.

Sleek Makeup Coppered Up Giftset

If your a regular reader here at conquering the world in heels you will know that I’m a big fan of Sleek makeup especially their lip products. This gift set features an eyeshadow palette containing 4 bronze shadows and two black shadows in different finishes, a rose gold blush, a lip liner and a matte lip cream. Prepare to see these products featured a lot here on the blog.

Gordon’s Pink Gin

2018 was the year of Gin, I tried and tested various gin concoctions but my favourite remained this one.

Revolution Imogenation Highlight To the Moon Palette

This was a gift to me from me. After not buying makeup really throughout 2018 I thought do you know what you’ve worked hard this year treat yourself and I did just that & purchased this Palette it features 3 setting powders, 3 bronzing/contour powders and 4 highlighting powders.

PAI Skincare Gift

Luxury skincare is not something I treat myself too so I’m looking forward to using this set. It contains the Camellia & Rose gentle hydrating cleanser & cloth, Rosehip biogenerate oil, & Chamomile & Rosehip Gentle Day Cream. All of Pai products are cruelty-free, vegan & eco-friendly.

Pandora Cool Breeze Ring & Earring Set

A stunning silver bobble ring with a clear blue topaz stone, with drop earrings to match.

Zoella Lifestyle Warm & Fuzzy travel cup & Beanie Hat Set.

I’m not a particularly big fan of Zoella as I think her products are overpriced however I do love the design and colour combo of this travel cup and beanie. I’ve worn the beanie hat a lot already and I’m sure I’ll get a lot of use out of this travel cup especially as its back to the reality of the daily commute.

Black Pearl Beret

Another hat to add to my ever-growing collection of hats.

Miss Selfridge Black Long Sleeve Victoriana top

I love the versatility of this top it looks great when paired with skirts and jeans. It has really nice intricate lace detailing and makes any outfit look a lot more dressed up.

Maybelline 12 days of Christmas Advent Calendar

Another gift to myself, I was browsing online the night before and saw that this calendar was £50. I love Maybelline products but I wasn’t about to spend £50 so when I was in Home Bargains and saw that this calendar was only £13. I picked up not only one for myself but one for an extra present for my mum. This was the bargain buy of the year as it contains 12 of Maybelline’s cult products such as lash sensational mascara, baby lips, strobing liquid etc.

Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Hairdryer Gift Set

This gift set came complete with a purple hairdryer, this fab floral case which is giving me Ted Baker vibes, hairbrush and sectioning clips.

Huawei Honour 7A mobile phone

After Novembers issues with technology, I’m looking at you mercury retrograde. I was in desperate need of a new phone but didn’t wanna buy one or spend a lot as I still have a year left on my contract. My other half purchased this phone for me & I love it so far. Switching from IOS to android was easier than I thought. I can also add extra memory via a memory card which is great for being a blogger. The battery life & camera is also better than the iPhone.

Iheart Revolution Mermaids Heart eyeshadow Palette

This palette will be great for summer as it contains 12 eyeshadows in summer shades from blues, greens, golds & bronze shades in a variety of different finishes, great for holiday.

A Holiday

I was beyond shocked when I unwrapped this holiday brochure and my dad & partner said they were treating me, my partner & daughter, for a holiday. I nearly cried. So expect to see conquering the world in heels doing just that and going on holiday this year.

Thank you again to all my family and friends for all my gifts, I’ve been truly spoilt this year and I’m truly grateful for each of these gifts.

Thank you for Reading

September Favourites

Hi, my Beauties hope all is well. September went by in a blink of an eye. I can’t believe we’re in October already. September for me was the month I tried my best to get my shit together, sometimes failing but overall I think I did a pretty good job. September so me return to work after having the summer holidays off and I also added a few new items of clothing to my wardrobe which I can’t wait to share with you all. How was your September and what were your favourites ??

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner – Lionfish

These days I rarely reach for Black eyeliner and instead have been reaching for a brown eyeliner as it makes my eyes look bigger. This eyeliner is high pigmented with a brown metallic shimmer shade. It’s also waterproof and you don’t have to ever sharpen it as its a twist up pencil.

Baltiste dry shampoo

Last month I used dry shampoo a lot more than usual I mean I’ve used it in the past, but not for its sole purpose of refreshing hair between washes. I normally use it when my hair needs a bit of extra volume. I’ve gotta say it’s been a life changer and got me a few extra days of not washing because let’s face it washing your hair is such a boring chore. Baltiste is the best dry shampoo on the market as it leaves hair smelling fresh and doesn’t have that powdery residue like some other dry shampoos have plus it’s not gonna break the bank. My top tip is to apply the night before, then in the morning, you will wake up with hair that feels clean and not greasy.

Leopard Print

One print I’m loving this season is leopard print. Leopard print is everywhere at the moment all over social media, on the high street, and on the tv. It’s also made its way into my wardrobe last month I added a dress, top and trousers. After all leopard print is a neutral right?

Another print I’ve been loving this season is check print. Another print that’s everywhere at the moment is checks, I’ve added a coat, numerous skirts and accessories in the print to my wardrobe. I love how you can style checks you can either dress it up as 90’s grunge or 90’s Clueless or go sophisticated in a classic Prince of Wales check. I love both ways of styling checks.

Glade volcanic Coconut Spray – coconut water sea salt minerals

I’ve used this air freshener over the summer and as summer came to a close sadly so did the sale of this limited edition spray (cue my sad face) My house smelt like I was on holiday over the summer thanks to this spray with notes of coconut water and sea salt minerals it definitely had a smell of the seaside but mixed with the smell of a pina colada what was not to love.

Car Masters: Rust to Riches

I binge watched this series in a couple days (don’t judge me). If you liked pimp my ride back in the day then you will love this as its a more sophisticated version. The series follows a crew at Gotham Garage who take a variety of vintage rare cars (scrap metal) and complete overhaul them into one of the cars to trade up for a showstopper to earn the big money.

The Seven Steps to Closure – Donna Joy Usher

I couldn’t put this book down it was so entertaining and had me literally laughing out loud in points. There’s some points in the book that most of us can relate to. If you like sex and the city then give this book a read. It follows Tara, a 30-year-old divorcee who still cannot get over her ex-husband (read wanker) leaving her for her cousin (read homewrecker). She then sets out to get over her ex by following a magazines article named 7 steps to closure, with nothing to lose and the support of her loved ones she sets out to complete the seven steps with the goal of closure.

If you guys have any book recommendations please leave me a comment.
