What I’ve Learned in My first Year of Blogging.

Hello, my beauty’s. Conquering the world in heels is one today!!! I know I can’t quite believe it that a year ago today on the spur of the moment I created this blog not really knowing what I was doing or what I was gonna post or even if I was gonna keep it up. Little did I know that when I published my first post February Favourites a year ago today, I’d catch the blogging bug and be still posting content a year later.

I wanna say thank you to all you guys who read and follow my blog cause without you guys I probably wouldn’t be here still hitting publish on content. I’m grateful to every single one of you who takes time out to read and view my page.

What I’ve learned in my First Year of blogging?

  1. It’s not as Simple as just taking a few photos and writing some words.

Theirs this misconception that blogging is super easy, and that it’s as simple as taking a few photos and writing words to accompany said photos. But I was wrong the hours spent taking said photos just to get the right layout, natural light and the time spent editing them. I’m lazy and don’t really edit my pictures 🙈. Then the hours spent writing said post. I’m one of those I have loads of ideas at bedtime, come next day to write it down, the mind goes blank. So I stop and start a post umpteen times. When you’ve finally written your post I then have to proofread it numerous times before I hit publish then sometimes even after I spot mistakes. It’s harder to check your own work. Then the time spent being social and promoting your posts on social media accounts.

2. Social media is your best friend

Before I started blogging I only really used facebook. I had an Instagram account but rarely posted. Twitter used to scare me I didn’t know how to tweet and communicate with others. Fast forward a year later, I now post regularly on both platforms. I understand how hashtags work and even what the word algorithm means. I partake in twitter chats and have started interacting with others. The most important thing I’ve learnt about blogging is that you have to actually be social on all platforms and interact with others. I struggled with this one the most as I’m quite a shy person and have been called anti-social in the past. In the last few months, I’ve been taking time out to show love to others, if I enjoyed reading a post I’ll tell them and retweet their post. If I like a post on Instagram I’ll like it and comment. Showing appreciation for others work goes a long way in the blogging community.

3. The blogging community

When I first started blogging I was scared of the other bloggers and was shocked at the blogging drama and the damn right bitchiness of some. I’ve distanced myself away from the drama and have discovered some lovely people who are supportive. One thing I will say about the blogging community is that even though it can be full of childish drama, If someone comes for us (hotel gate cough cough) and underestimates what we do we do all stick together. I was proud to be part of the blogging community after that incident.

4. You have to be patient.

It takes time to build a following on all social media platforms and to be noticed by brands. So don’t get disheartened if after a few weeks your not getting the views, followers, and PR requests. In time it will gradually happen ( I hope fingers crossed).

5. Career-wise and Discovering Self.

The most important thing on the list, is probably what blogging has taught me about my self. It’s helped me finally discover what I want to do career-wise. I’d love to work in fashion and be a stylist. It’s also helped me gain confidence to share my self on the internet. It’s also helped me to discover what my own personal style is and what looks good and doesn’t its like my own personal style diary.

The Future of My Blog.

In the next year, I want to develop my blogging skills especially photography and my writing style. I also want to establish a proper blogging schedule and actually stick to it. I also plan to go self – hosted and hopefully work with brands.

February Favourites

Hi my beauty’s, hope all is well. February was my birthday month, so I got some new additions to my ever growing beauty collection. I’m a hoarder and running out of room. So I decided it’s time instead of buying the same products time and time again when I have draws full of similar products to use the products I already have. I’m also the type to run out of a mascara then have to buy 2 or 3 new mascaras to replace that 1 mascara even though I have loads already. Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this.

Zoeva Rose Golden Eye Palette

This palette was a gift from my sister for my birthday. I love the packaging of this cute palette. It features 10 high pigmented shades in a range of matte, metallic and satin finishes. I love the colours as I love creating a rose gold/copper smokey eye. The eyeshadows are easy to blend and last all day. I will definitely be looking into buying more zoeva products.

Avon Big & Daring Mascara

After seeing all the hype about the Benefit Bad Gal Bang mascara and reading the mixed reviews. I decided against buying it as I couldn’t justify to myself spending that much money on a mascara when I have a drawer full of mascaras already. After seeing the pictures of people’s full eyelashes using the Bad Gal Bang mascara. I decided to try out a more voluminous mascara so I reached for this one. This mascara definitely delivers on the va-va volume aspect. My eyelashes were longer and thicker than when using my normal mascara. Avon claims this mascara is clump free however it does clump but I like that look, plus my mascara has dried out a bit so that might be why. Looking at pictures of others wearing the bad gal Bang mascara i can see that this mascara gives similar results however I can’t say for sure as I’ve not tried the bad gal bang yet.

Johnson’s Baby Lotion

In my opinion, this moisturiser is quite underrated as a beauty product. Before I got into proper skincare, I used to use this to take off my makeup like my mum and nannan have done for years. It’s effective at even removing waterproof mascara and doesn’t hurt the eyes like some products can do. It leaves skin as soft as a baby’s bottom. Recently I’ve been using this for a morning on the days when I can’t be bothered to do a full-on skincare routine. Which ill be honest is a lot recently. My skin looks better using and feels more moisturised than when I’ve used some of my more expensive products.

Palmer’s Rosehip Skin Therapy Oil

After running out of my beloved coconut oil and on a quest to work my way through my drawers full of skincare products that I’ve been hoarding, I decided to try this. This oil is said to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, dry damaged skin and uneven skin tone. I used this daily after my shower on my stretch marks. I can’t see much of a difference in the appearance of them but I don’t think I ever will unless anyone knows of a miracle stretch mark remover. My skin feels softer and looks smoother though. The only downside thing about this was that I didn’t get the pump dispenser which would have saved product and a lot of mess.

Fashion Favourites

Zara corduroy Nautical Cap

Another month another new hat. It wouldn’t be a monthly favourite without one. After dropping hints to my other half everytime I watched the Havana music video by Camila Cabello about how much I wanted a red baker boy cap and a mustard one. The boy did good and got me this beauty for my birthday. If I could have a baker boy hat in every colour and style I think I’d be very happy. #hatgoals

Zara Fringed flower Earrings

Another present from the other half, the boy knows me better than I know myself. I love statement earrings at the moment and these beauties certainly make a statement. These are actually comfortable to wear and don’t drag down the ears like you would think.

Gordons Pink Gin

Towards the end of last year I rediscovered gin and fell in love. It no longer tasted like perfume like it did when I was 15 when I raided the house alcohol cupboard and poured half a bottle of gin and a dash of whatever you could find, (Disclaimer I don’t condone underage drinking and you should definitely not try it unless you want to be ill with a hangover for days). Thankfully my drink making days have come a long way and now my gin and tonics don’t taste like pure perfume especially with this new pink version. It’s so nice if you like gin you should deffo try it. It has a subtle taste of strawberries and raspberries. Plus it makes your drink look all pretty and pink.

Youtube

Last month I fell back in love with watching my favourite bloggers on YouTube. I love relaxing after having a bath and doing a mini self-care session just watching YouTube.

Date ideas

Hi, my beauty’s, seen as today is Valentine’s Day and February is the month of love. I’ve decided to do a Date Ideas post to inspire you on how to make the most of your time with loved ones. Date night/day doesn’t always have to cost a bomb and family life doesn’t mean you can’t have fun on a date as a family. Happy Valentine’s day!!

Get Outside and do an activity

A simple idea but it’s cheap, easy to do and can be so much fun. You could go for a walk together, bike ride, play tennis or simply have a picnic. Me and the other half have been going on walks together and it’s nice to be outside talking with no stresses.

Cook your Favourite meal for each other.

This can be as easy or complicated as you choose to make it and as cheap and expensive. Just set the table, have the lights dimmed, candles lit, music playing and don’t burn the dinner.

Takeaway and Themed Nights

Order your favourite takeaway together, and have a themed night. Themes could include :

Comedy night -where you watch your favourite comedies and comedians.

Paranormal night – where you watch your fave horrors and paranormal tv programmes. This is one of our favourites to do.

Games night – where you play board games or play on the games console.

Pamper night – face masks, massages etc.

Enjoy a night out.

It’s nice sometimes as a couple to enjoy a night out at a nice restaurant, have a few cocktails or just have a few drinks down the local. As parents this is our biggest adjustment to not being able to just pop down to the local whenever we wanted to, now it’s just reserved for the odd occasion

Do a fun activity together.

We’re quite lucky these days that theirs so many activities to do. You could go ice-skating, bowling, cinema, arcades, crazy golf, laser tag etc.

Fun days out together.

Have a day out together on your own or as a family at a theme park, the zoo, a farm or a park. This is something I plan to do more this year.

Don’t just wait for dates to remind your loved one that you love them, tell them daily, text them just to see how there are, praise them and compliment them and kiss them when you get the chance.
