Living On A Prairie – Trend Report SS20
Hi my beauties, hope all is well and your adjusting well to our new reality. Not much has changed here in the UK since my last blog post apart from now there is no limit on how long your allowed outside to exercise and more businesses are seeming to return to work. for the time being we are all still at home and it looks like my sector will be the last to return . With schools set to return next month i’m hoping i can get back into some sort of routine but we will see. Some of the hings I’ve enjoyed about all this time at home is spending quality time with my daughter before she starts full time school in September. Another thing i’m enjoying is cooking just not shopping for the ingredients. In today’s blog post i’ll be sharing a Key Spring Summer trend that lets you steal the style of the Little Women cast without looking like an extra in period drama with a modern take on the style.

Living On a Prairie
Whoa were halfway there whoa whoa living on a prairie ( you sang that didn’t you, i would like to apologise for you now having that song stuck in your head i’m having a real Bon-Jovi moment at the minute well any rock music). A big trend on the Catwalks for Spring Summer 2020 was Prairie Romance or as the kids now call it #CottageCore. So exactly what is Cottage Core? Think Prairie dresses, rural countryside scenes, with puffy sleeves and simplistic country living, that’s the aesthetic for fashions newest subculture trend in 2020. With all that is happening in the world right now it seems that were all craving the more simplistic and more idyllic lifestyle of the countryside rather than the hustle and bustle of the city. Lucky me it seems that i’m on trend for once.
As Seen On The Catwalks
The Trend of this simple prairie romance look was seen on the Catwalks of Designers such as Louis Vuitton, Celine, Chanel, Zadig & Voltaire, and We Are Kindred. The key trend to take away from the catwalks is that it was all about volume and lots of it whether it was with exaggerated sleeves and high neck tops with delicate details or the ruffle on skirts and the extra volume on the jeans. Boot-cut jeans are back people!!
The Aesthetic
The Aesthetic for this trend is Little Women but with a softer more feminine feel. Modest dress silhouettes provide the wearers with volume whether its in the form of a puff sleeve blouse, or ruffles on dresses or skirts, a natural color scheme, and delicate detailing such as lace or crochet. To get the look think Big puff sleeve details but with a modern silhouette that is flattering on all body types as it gives the illusion of a smaller waist with high necks and long sleeves. For the skirts or dresses its also about volume with skirts and dresses been loose fitting with details such as ruffles or a-line shapes. Even the jeans seen on the catwalk had extra volume and saw the return of the modest boot-cut jean, a jean that is mega flattering on everyone especially petite girls. For the outerwear either a classic waistcoat or a printed sleeveless jumper to wear over your puff sleeve details.
The Colour Scheme
The colour scheme for this trend is monochromatic tones mainly black and white with the added pops of colour coming either in accessories or prints such as gingham but in classic colours such as red or green. floral prints were also delicate and in muted colours.
The Accessories
Finally no look would be complete without accessories and accessories can really make or break an look. The footwear for this trend was western boots either in black or white, classic loafers and platform boots either paired with knee-high socks or tights. The bags seen on the catwalk were hobo bags in tan. Head wear came in the form of a classic fedora hat. Jewelry was quite minimal but if you like jewelry think boho long necklaces. Corsages were also seen on the catwalk so get raiding your nan’s jewelry box or check out your local charity shop.
